Christmas Time!- A Social Story Resource
Christmas time is coming! Use a social story to make this year great!
We are so excited for the Christmas season and wanted to share some resources with you! This time of year can be difficult for individuals with autism, but with some planning and having the right tools, it can be magical for everyone!
BTL utilizes what is known as Social Stories. These stories are quick stories addressing different social interactions or activities which might be difficult for your child. They break down what is to be expected, how we can react to it, or what we might need to do for help!
During Christmas, some of the most difficult tasks for learners include:
- Bright Lights
- Change of Schedules
- Family Gatherings
- Meeting Santa
- Opening Presents
- Increased crowds or busy stores
While, these things may be difficult, you can prepare your child for these situations with a quick social story! BTL recommends using this Christmas Social Story from Little Puddins: Amanda McGuinness. It does a great job outlining different parts of Christmas including being off school, meeting Santa, giving gifts, and more!
You can also find different helpful social stories through: AndnextcomesL This website provides multiple links to social stories that might be helpful for your family! They also link some great Youtube videos which also work to explain different parts of Christmas!
Beyond The Label has also written a FREE resource for you to download and use as you wish! This social story will review as well as incorporate interactive questions and suggestions for you to follow. Remember to make a social story fun and exciting for your child so they are interested!
